It doesn't always take something dramatic to change a life; sometimes it's as simple as an hour of your time.

Part Time Volunteer Opportunities at EHouse

Tutoring & Homework Club:
This is our most urgent volunteer need!We have anywhere from 8-15 school-age children looking for homework help. Volunteers can come at times that work for them to provide one-on-one tutoring with an individual child, or come at our prearranged"Homework Club" times to work within a group setting. Currently, Homework Club meets on Monday and Wednesdays from 4-5:15pm.

ChildWatch:
We are always looking for volunteers to play with our kids during our weekly community House meeting. We need volunteers Monday nights from 6:30-8pm as many times a month as possible!

Mentoring:
Most of our children are eager for a "big buddy" and would benefit greatly from this type of relationship. This would be based upon mutual interests of the child and mentor and is usually developed out of experiences on field trips, during homework help or childwatch nights. This would need to be a very committed and consistent individual.

Babysitting:
Our mothers need breaks every once in a while, whether to go to an AA meeting, go for a walk or even to take a bath. While they do often lean upon one another, often, it is not enough. Volunteers would ideally provide an hour or two a month of respite by occasionally watching a mother's children.

Field Trips:
Past field trips have included horse back riding at Tilden, Family night at the YMCA, swimming, museums, zoos, circuses, parks, Lake Merritt...we can often help plan, pay for, chaperone and transport.

Office Assistance:
No great skills are needed and we will train you if you are able to commit to any time working in our office. The volunteer would do anything from answering phones, database upkeep, thank-you letters or newsletter production. This is the most flexible type of volunteer position and some work may even be done from home!

House Upkeep:
Do you like to cook or shop for food? We could use you for this or many other upkeep situations, including painting, donation maintenance or taking on a project like disaster preparedness. Any little bit helps and commitments range from an hour a week to assist a woman in her cook night, to a few hours every four or so months to clean and paint a room for a new resident.
